Uploading a new version does not wipe your theme settings — that has been measured, not assumed. Here is the checklist anyway, plus the one thing that genuinely does need checking afterwards.

Updating Neutrino is the same operation as installing it: upload the new zip, activate it. Ghost keeps your existing theme in place until the new one validates, so a bad file cannot leave your site themeless.

The question everyone asks first is whether an update resets their settings. It does not. Ghost stores theme settings in its database, keyed to the theme, and an upload replaces the theme's files. This has been measured directly rather than assumed — settings dumped, theme uploaded, settings read back, all present. Your colour scheme, corner style, footer text, navigation and content are all untouched.

There is one thing worth checking after any update that renames or adds templates, and one situation — hand-edited theme files on a self-hosted server — where an update genuinely does overwrite work. Both are covered below, and neither is common.
