The two post-layout families have clearer names, the deepest table of contents moved to the layout that suits it, and pages on any template now generate their tag sections.

The two families of post layout have been renamed. What was Editorial is now Cover hero, and what was Support is now Compact hero. Nothing about either layout changed — the names now describe what they do rather than what they were originally built for.

The distinction is where the feature image goes. A cover hero puts it behind the title, filling the screen. A compact hero puts it below the title, as a block in the flow of the page. That second layout was built for support articles and named after them, then turned out to be just as right for FAQs, policies, pricing pages and reference material — so the name had stopped describing it.

If you have posts or pages on one of the old templates, reassign them from the Template dropdown after updating. Ghost stores the template by name, so a renamed one is no longer matched and the post falls back to the Default layout until you pick the new name. See Post templates.

New features

  • A nested, every-level table of contents is now available on the compact hero layout. Choose Compact Hero Table Of Contents All Levels for a long reference document where a reader needs to jump between sub-sections. The previous every-level option sat on the cover hero, where a full-screen cinematic opening and a deep reference index made an odd pair; it has been retired in favour of this one.

Bug fixes

  • A page set to one of the Support or Editorial layouts generated no tag sections. If you gave a page public tags expecting Neutrino to build a section of recent posts for each, it worked on a page using the Default template and silently did nothing on a page using any of the others. It now works on every template, with the same controls — sections below your content by default, or above it if you use the positioning tag. See Post feeds and archives.
  • The compact hero's feature image had no space beneath it, so body text started against the picture. It now carries the same space below as above at every screen size.
  • The manual said framing tags work on the compact hero layout. They do not, and have not since they were deliberately scoped to full-screen heroes. Corrected, along with a description of where a page's excerpt sits on that layout.
